Leniency Granted for Actress Questioned by Judge

If you were a fan of Melrose Place, you may remember Amy Locane-Bovenizer from the 13 episodes she was in. Today, she is not so much famous as she is infamous. The actress was drunk and caused a crash in 2010 that took the life of a 60-year-old woman.

After serving just part of her original prison term, Locane-Bovenizer was granted leniency and released on parole in June 2015. Last Friday, a judge determined that there was no significant explanation for that leniency and he wants the actress’s early release justified.

Locane-Bovenizer stood trial in 2012 and was acquitted of aggravated manslaughter in the death of Helene Seeman. Instead, she was convicted of second-degree vehicular homicide. According to documents, the actress was speeding in a 35 mph zone and her blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit. She crashed into Fred Seeman and his wife as they were turning into their driveway.

Once found guilty, Locane-Bovenizer faced up to 10 years in prison. The judge in her original trial sentenced her below the minimum of five years, stating that he believed a long jail term would be detrimental to her young children. The appellate judge has declared that there were no compelling reasons to downgrade the actress’s sentence and that there was no rationale in determining that she was no longer a risk to the public.

A new hearing date will be set for Locane-Bovenizer, who may find herself back in prison for her crime.
