Head-On Crash with Semi Truck Leaves Three Injured

A man from Sharpsburg was left in critical condition after an accident overnight on Christmas Eve. The accident occurred on West Highway 16.

According to reports, a 22-year-old man was driving on the highway when the truck he was driving hit a semi truck. The accident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. when the driver of the truck crossed the center line and hit the semi truck head on.

Witnesses to the accident said that there was an explosion after the collision. They also said they saw the semi truck leave the roadway and hit a telephone pole and mailbox. The truck then jackknifed and came to a rest. The cab of the truck was on fire when responders arrived on scene.

The driver of the semi was located outside of his cab and was dragged further away by witnesses. The driver reportedly was distraught, saying, “Why did they go in front of me?” Witnesses also offered assistance to the driver of the pickup truck who was later removed from his vehicles by emergency responders.

Both drivers involved in the accident sustained serious injury. None of the injuries sustained were considered life threatening. A passenger in the pickup truck said that it belonged to him and that he had let his friend drive.
