Former News Anchor Opens Up About Alcoholism

In a teaser for a report that aired on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, popular former Fox 5 anchor Amanda Davis admitted to being an alcoholic.

Throughout the years, Davis has found herself on the wrong side of the law at least three times. Each of these times involved Davis being arrested for driving while intoxicated. In a 2013 incident, Davis hitting a car while traveling down a one-way street. This incident led to her departure from Fox 5.

In 2015, one weekend before she was slated to return to television with CBS Atlanta, Davis was pulled over and arrested for driving while intoxicated yet again. Following that arrest, she entered rehab. Davis was ordered to perform community service and enter a period of probation for that arrest.

Davis was hired by CBS Atlanta for a report called “Just a Minute.” She was to be part of a rotating group of commentators. After her arrest, she chose to take time off. The CBS affiliate has said that Davis is welcome back when she is ready to return.

Prior to her announcement, Davis had never admitted to being an alcoholic publicly. In fact, she has never hinted at having a problem at all.

While Davis has been told that she has a job waiting for her when she determines it is the right time for her, not everyone is so lucky. Hundreds of people lose their jobs because they are arrested and convicted of driving under the influence.
