Father Charged in Fatal Brain Injury Case

An infant boy died on September 23, and the child’s father has been arrested in connection with the death. According to reports, the man has been charged with malice murder, cruelty to children in the first degree, and second degree murder.

Reports indicate that the man had turned himself in on charges of domestic violence. The baby’s mother was the victim in that incident and it was reported that the baby had suffered brain damage while in the man’s care. The Henry County Police Department was alerted to the incident after receiving a call from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where the boy was being treated.

The child was initially in the pediatric intensive care unit following the incident. The father had texted the mother who was at a job fair, telling her that the child had fallen off of a bed and was not responding. The mother returned to retrieve her child and friend drove both adults and the infant to Piedmont Henry Hospital. The child was transported via helicopter because he was unresponsive and not breathing when the trio arrived at the hospital. The child was pronounced dead on September 23.

The man was denied bond for the charges.
