David Cassidy Involved in Car Accident

David Cassidy is in the news again. Not because he has landed a new role on television, and certainly not because he has landed a new gig in Las Vegas. No. David Cassidy is in the news because he was involved in an accident.

Cassidy, the former teen idol, was involved in a car accident that resulted in hit-and-run charges being levied against him. Sadly for Cassidy, it happened on the same day his house was sold in bankruptcy auction. This isn’t the actor’s first brush with the law.

Some seven years ago, Cassidy publicly admitted to having a problem with alcohol. Shortly after, in 2010, he was arrested for DUI. His second DUI arrest came in 2013, and he was arrested for suspicion of DUI a year later. After his third DUI, the actor was ordered to enter rehab. In the middle of all of Cassidy’s problems, his wife left and he declared bankruptcy.

On September 9, Cassidy’s home was sold as part of bankruptcy and divorce proceedings. On the same day, he is accused of having sideswiped a truck on a Fort Lauderdale highway. Cassidy initially stopped, but then fled the scene of the accident. According to a witness, Cassidy was speeding and swerving in his lane just prior to the crash.

Police located Cassidy and his car at a clinic about an hour later. The actor told officers that he exchanged information with the driver of the truck and left the scene. A witness had a different story, saying that Cassidy only stopped to try and hide his license plate before he fled.

Cassidy was charged with expired tags, improper lane usage, driving on a suspended license, and leaving the scene of an accident. He will appear in court on October 27 to begin the process of defending himself against the charges.
